On 12 May a CEE regional event on restructuring of coal regions and roles of local communities and trade unions within this process took place. At the event we discussed the importance of timely coal exit in the context of EU’s enhanced climate and energy policies. As Slovenia and other CEE countries are lagging behind we shed light on the key climate and economic reasons for abandoning coal before 2030.
On 18 and 19 May 2021, Centre for Transport and Energy (CDE) and CAN Europe together organized an interactive online workshop Cultivating Just Transition in Central and Eastern Europe. The main ambition was to take a step back and reflect on the current status of just transition debates in different European regions, including in relation to the set up of relevant financial instruments, so as to help envisage constructive ways forward.
On Wednesday 24th February 2021, 35 participants from municipalities, energy and development agencies, public administration, business and NGOs participated in the workshop “The role of municipalities in the implementation of the national energy and climate plan”
In December 2020, the Unify project has organised a Baltic regional workshop on programming of EU funds with a focus on climate, energy and environmental issues. In the online workshop the participants from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania exchanged on how to better participate in the multiannual financial framework (MFF) process and EU funds programming in their respective countries.
Workshop Report on Participatory processes in development and implementation of climate and energy strategies
More than 40 participants from 7 countries, including NGOs, representatives of governments, private sector, universities and energy agencies, discussed the importance of participatory processes in development and implementation of climate and energy strategies
On the 15th of May 2020, the workshop on the participatory process for just transition planning took place for Estonian stakeholders. The workshop concentrated on how to design a participatory process for the preparation of a territorial just transition plan for the Ida-Viru region.
In an online workshop organised by Réseau Action Climat France (RAC- France) and Germanwatch, civil society organisations have worked towards accelerating the European Green transition through recovery programmes. CAN Europe and CEE Bankwatch organised the “EU funds for ambitious National Energy and Climate Plans” workshop on 11 October 2019. The workshop focused on how to align the programming of Cohesion Policy funds with the EU climate and energy targets, empowering members to impact the process in their respective Member States and regions.
